𝐊𝐈𝐀𝐑𝐀 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝟑 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐓𝐋’𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆

 

The Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Kiara College, through the World Bank assisted Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project organized and implemented a Technical Teachers and Instructors (TTI’s) training for the entire South east zone at IG Hub, an ICT Resource Centre in Aba, Abia State from November 19, 2023 to December 8, 2023.

 

This training was borne out of the need to meet the growing demand for quality technical teachers across the zone. The objectives include but not limited to the following.

 

– Enhancing the pedagogical skills of Technical Teachers as well as equipping them with modern teaching techniques and instructional strategies best suited for technical subjects.

– Update technical knowledge thereby incorporating the latest concepts and advancements in the various technical fields into the curriculum.

– To foster student engagement by creating an engaging learning environment which encourages active participation and collaboration among students.

– To promote soft skill: There is need to emphasize the importance of cultivating non-technical skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving abilities.

 

The IDEAS Technical Teachers and Instructors (TTI’s) training has three components which generally aims at enhancing the technical teaching skills of teachers from the South-east zone. 

 

The components are: 

1. Pedagogy 

2. Digital Literacy 

3. Trade Specifics.

 

Kiara College Ltd, an international TVET consulting firm was contracted to handle the third component of the training in the last week of the training. During this training the participants were grouped according to their professions and there were eight identified trades : Electrical works, Building Construction, Automobile/Mechanical Engineering, ICT, Leather works, Garment Manufacturing, Hospitality and Agriculture.

 

The first day had the participants undergo general induction and registration processes. The rest of the week involved practical lessons/training at various industries/locations for specific trades.

Some of the groups showcased their work products at the end of the programme. It will be recalled that Kiara College a leading TVET consulting firm has in the past partnered with the Federal Ministry of Education and some state governments. E.g. Anambra, Ekiti and Ondo to facilitate TVET training, in their States.
